Road safety strategy targets fewer traffic fatalities by 2030

TIRANA, August 3 – Albania’s National Road Safety Strategy 2026–2030 sets out measures to improve road safety and reduce traffic fatalities by the end of the decade.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy prepared the strategy together with other relevant institutions. The document aims to reduce road deaths by 2030 in line with European Union targets.
The strategy calls for safer road infrastructure and stronger protection for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists. It also plans stricter traffic enforcement and greater compliance with road safety rules. In addition, it promotes wider use of seat belts, helmets, and child restraint systems.
Meanwhile, the document seeks to improve the collection and analysis of road accident data. Authorities will use the information to develop more effective policies and evidence-based interventions.
The strategy also includes measures to raise public awareness, improve infrastructure safety, and strengthen enforcement of road traffic legislation.
As a result, the government aims to create safer roads for all users and bring Albania closer to European road safety standards. The strategy states that every life saved represents another step toward safer roads across the country.
