Rising flow of domestic and foreign tourists in Berat

TIRANA, August 12 – Berat remains one of Albania’s main tourist destinations. Thousands of tourists visit the city throughout the year. Prime Minister Edi Rama today shared footage on social media from Berat Castle. The castle was filled with tourists during the hot August days.

Around 550,000 visitors travelled to Berat during the first 5 months of 2026. Foreign tourists accounted for about 85% of the total. Meanwhile, domestic and foreign visitors choose the city of “one above one windows” for its history and culture. They also come for its food and local hospitality. Berat Castle, the historic Mangalem and Gorica neighbourhoods, Gorica Bridge and the Onufri National Iconographic Museum remain major attractions.

Berat forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. In addition, its historical heritage, architecture, gastronomy and natural attractions are expanding the city’s tourism offer. Beyond the historic centre, tourists are increasingly visiting rural areas, wineries and agritourism sites. The offer also includes the Osum Canyon, Bogova Waterfall and hiking in the Mount Tomor area. Various cultural and gastronomic tours are also available.
