Favorable year for vineyards as farmers begin grape harvest

TIRANA, August 25 – Farmers have begun harvesting grapes in the vineyards of Përmet and Këlcyra. The crop represents one of the area’s characteristic products.

Favorable weather conditions have supported expectations for a good harvest. Producers also expect high-quality grapes this year.

Meanwhile, securing a market remains a key challenge for farmers. However, cooperation with local wineries has created more stable market opportunities in recent years. The wineries collect a significant share of the production.

Winery administrator Marsel Bejko said around 40–50 local farmers supply the wineries. He added that about 20 of them produce larger quantities and work more professionally in the vineyards. The other 20 farmers produce smaller quantities but also deliver grapes of good quality.

Beyond this year’s harvest, grape growing remains an important asset for the area. The sector connects local farmers with the region’s long winemaking tradition and its local economy.
