“Lonely Planet Italia”: Autumn offers ideal time to explore Albania

TIRANA, September 1 – Italian travel publication “Lonely Planet Italia” highlights autumn as an ideal time to explore Albania, with milder temperatures, fewer tourists and lower prices than during the summer peak.
The publication recommends October for visits to the Albanian Riviera, historic cities and mountain areas. Average daytime temperatures reach 21°C, while September remains warmer at around 25°C. November brings cooler conditions and more frequent rainfall.
In Gjirokastër and Berat, visitors can explore historic neighbourhoods and cultural sites with fewer crowds. Berat also hosts the “Wine and History” festival in October. Meanwhile, the Osum Canyon offers opportunities for outdoor activities, while scenic walks remain available for visitors who prefer to stay on land.
“Lonely Planet Italia” also highlights Tirana, where the autumn season brings a quieter pace. The 10th Tirana Marathon on October 25 will provide another opportunity to experience the capital.
For mountain enthusiasts, October offers one of the last opportunities to hike between Theth and Valbona river valley. The route covers around 15 kilometres and takes 6–8 hours.
The publication also recommends the Vjosa river valley, Pogradec, Albania’s wetlands and parts of the Riviera. Coastal areas remain active in October, while places such as Gjipe and Kakome, along the Riviera, offer a quieter seaside experience.
