Rama: Albania ranks first in the region in PISA 2025

Prime Minister Edi Rama has welcomed Albania’s results in the PISA 2025 assessment, describing them as an “outstanding report card.” He said the country worked hard throughout the past year to address the areas that needed improvement.

In a video message, Rama said Albania has regained its upward trajectory after the decline caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have achieved our best-ever performance in the PISA 2025 test,” Rama said. The assessment measures learning outcomes among pre-university students in mathematics, science and reading.

Rama said Albania made remarkable progress after the disruption caused by the pandemic. He noted that countries around the world saw their results decline during that period, while Albania also suffered a significant setback.

“We took a hit after a period of steady and gradual growth,” Rama said. “Today, we are effectively first in the region.”

The prime minister said the result reflects Albania’s ambition to lead in every field and sector. He also praised school leaders and teachers for their contribution. Rama said the achievement brings credit not only to the government, but also to everyone responsible for educating and supporting children.

“The result does great credit to the country,” Rama said. He argued that it also gives parents greater psychological relief after what he described as a highly negative atmosphere on social media.

Rama also highlighted the School of Directors as a clear success story. He presented the initiative as part of the efforts to strengthen school leadership and improve the quality of education. According to Rama, Albania’s progress goes beyond a rise in test scores. He said the country has also overtaken several European Union member states.

“We have not only made an extraordinary leap in points, but we have also moved ahead of several countries that are now members of the European Union,” Rama said.

The PISA assessment provides an international comparison of student performance and helps governments evaluate the effectiveness of their education systems. Rama said Albania’s latest results demonstrate that sustained efforts can produce significant gains. He stressed that the country must build on this progress and continue improving education outcomes.

PM Rama described the results as a major achievement for Albania and for those working every day to educate the country’s children.
