Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha met today in Tirana with the new World Health Organization (WHO) representative in Albania, Dr. Fabio Scano. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Albania and the WHO and advancing reforms in the country’s healthcare sector.

Hoxha and Scano discussed the role of the WHO partnership in supporting Albania’s national health policies. They also focused on efforts to strengthen the country’s healthcare system and improve health services for citizens and communities.

According to Hoxha, cooperation with the WHO represents an important factor in advancing Albania’s health priorities. He said this partnership remains closely linked to the country’s national development agenda and supports efforts to address key challenges in the healthcare sector.

At the same time, Hoxha highlighted the importance of WHO cooperation in Albania’s European integration process. He said the partnership can support reforms related to the country’s ongoing negotiations for European Union membership.

The minister also stressed the need to deepen cooperation in areas that can improve healthcare services and strengthen the system. These areas include regional cooperation, innovation and the digital transformation of healthcare services.

“We look forward to further deepening our partnership, including through stronger regional cooperation, innovation and the digital transformation of healthcare services, for the benefit of our citizens and communities,” Hoxha said.

Meanwhile, the meeting with the new WHO representative marks an opportunity to further develop cooperation between Albanian institutions and the organization. The partnership will continue to focus on health reforms, policy development and efforts to improve healthcare services.

Hoxha also emphasized the importance of innovation and digitalization in transforming healthcare services. These efforts can help improve the quality and accessibility of services while responding more effectively to the needs of citizens.

The cooperation between Albania and the WHO remains part of the country’s broader efforts to strengthen its healthcare system and advance reforms linked to European Union integration.
