Albania’s national chess team is competing in the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad, currently taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Around 2,000 players from around the world will compete over 12 days.

The Olympiad features 11 rounds in the Open and women’s categories. Albania is represented by 10 chess players.

Meanwhile, at the invitation of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), Albanian National Olympic Committee President Fidel Ylli is also attending the major event.

Ylli met with Uzbekistan Prime Minister and Uzbekistan Chess Federation President Abdulla Nigmatovich Aripov. He also held talks with other chess officials and prominent figures from the international chess community.

The meetings focused on developing chess through the “Sports Teams in Schools” project. They also explored cooperation with FIDE to bring expertise, development programs and equipment to Albania.

The initiative aims to bring chess closer to children and young people across the country.

Ylli attended the meetings together with Albanian Chess Federation President and International Grandmaster Erald Dervishi.
