Taulant Balla, co-chair of the EU-Albania Parliamentary Stabilisation and Association Committee and head of the Albanian parliamentary delegation, said Albania aims to complete European Union accession talks by Christmas 2027 and become a full member by 2030. He made the statement at the opening of the committee’s 22nd meeting in Tirana on September 21.

Balla said Albania has completed the opening of all negotiating clusters and entered the closing phase. He said the next stage requires a high pace of work, institutional responsibility, quality reforms and measurable results. Balla also said the focus must shift from adopted laws to their implementation.

Meanwhile, the two-day meeting forms part of the parliamentary cooperation mechanism between Albania and the European Union. It follows the 21st meeting, which took place in Strasbourg on July 8-9. European Parliament members Chiara Gemma and Cristian Terheș from the European Conservatives and Reformists group are also taking part. Gemma serves as vice-chair of the European Parliament delegation to the EU-Albania committee.

The meeting is co-chaired by Balla and Marco Tarquinio, head of the European Parliament delegation.
