Former diplomat Bashkim Zeneli passes away

Former Albanian diplomat, politician and publicist Bashkim Zeneli has passed away.
Assembly Speaker Niko Peleshi paid tribute to Zeneli, extending condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. He described him as an early intellectual figure in the Socialist Party who devoted much of his life to public service. Peleshi also highlighted Zeneli’s contribution to Albanian diplomacy and his writings and memoirs.
Zeneli began his career as a German translator before working as a journalist and foreign policy analyst. In 1991, he joined the Socialist Party as secretary for foreign relations. He later served two terms as a member of the Albanian legislature and represented Albania as ambassador to Germany and Greece. During his diplomatic career, he helped strengthen relations with international partners and supported Kosova’s war for freedom.
In 2018, President Ilir Meta awarded Zeneli the title of “Grand Master” in recognition of his long service to Albanian foreign policy and diplomacy.
