Albanian Orthography Congress, a major event in Albanian culture

The Albanian Orthography Congress took place from November 20 to November 25, 1972. It hosted 87 delegates from Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, and Montenegro who participated in its proceedings.

Among the participants representing Albanian science, education, and culture were Arber women from Italy. Notably, the General Directorate of Archives highlights prominent delegates such as Aleks Buda, Androkli Kostallari, Bedri Dedja, Dhimitër Shuteriq, Eqrem Çabej, Idriz Ajeti, and Josif Ferrari. Additionally, Academician Rexhep Qosja, a representative from Kosovo, regarded the congress as the most significant event in the history of Albanian culture.

The Congress aimed to establish principles and primary guidelines for formulating spelling rules to create a unified literary language. In this regard, the Congress marked the culmination of the efforts of revivalists and the Albanian Literary Commission. The Directorate General of Archives (DPA) presents excerpts from the Congress resolution along with the corresponding congress medal.
