Commitment of the Region of Puglia in Italy to the preservation of the Arbëresh language

The Regional Council of Puglia has passed the second edition of the project “Motherland, the languages of yesterday, today and tomorrow”. This edition is dedicated to the preservation and evaluation of the three linguistic minorities operating in the region of Puglia, among which that of the Arbëresh people.
“With a financial commitment of 100,000 Euros, we have decided to restart this extraordinary project, for the protection of a precious cultural heritage, that of linguistic minorities, which have been under the care of this region for centuries,” declared the councilor of this region, Sebastiano Leo.
This initiative involves cooperation with the region of Puglia, the Regional School Office for Puglia, the Film Commission of Puglia, the Public Theater of Puglia and the “La notte della taranta” foundation.
An important innovation of the project is the inclusion in the activities of the educational institutions from other Italian regions, having the same linguistic minorities, which are present in Puglia too. In fact, thanks to the support of Official website of the Regional School Office for Puglia in coordination with other regional school offices, among other schools, a school was chosen in Region of Molise for Arbëresh language.
