The Hora of Arbëresh in Sicily decorated with wall paintings

Hora e Arbëreshëve (Piana degli Albanesi) turns into an outdoors museum.
In the “Sheshi” /The square/ neighborhood, in Hora e Arbëreshëve, were inaugurated the mural paintings created by the artists Andrea Buglisi, Igor Scalisi Palminteri, Crazyone, Mauro Patta, Simone Zanaglia and Fausto Gurillermo Tabora Garcia.
This initiative was promoted by the administration of the municipality and the cultural association “Bashkë” /Together/. The project which has transformed this municipality into an outdoor art laboratory, follows the characteristic Arbëresh elements of the Hora and aims to preserve and use the intangible, historical-linguistic and cultural heritage of the area.
It took 10 days of work by the artists to give color and liveliness to the Arbëresh neighborhood “Sheshi”. On the murals are painted girls in Arbëresh costume, traditional ornaments of Arbëresh women, Saint George fighting the dragon, etc.
Hora e Arbëreshëve is known as the ‘capital’ of the Arbëresh, one of the largest communities of the historical Albanian communities in Italy. It is the most important and most populated center of Arbëresh in Sicily, where the seat of the bishop of the Italo-Albanian Byzantine Church, the Eparchy (or Diocese) of the Hora is located.
Hora e Arbëreshëve is located at the foot of a high mountain, 24 km from Palermo. It has preserved many ethnic elements of its Albanian culture, its cultural, linguistic and religious peculiarities.
