World Day of Audiovisual Heritage, Shkodër Castle fixed in the picture of August 1863

On the UNESCO World Audiovisual Heritage Day, which aims on preserving this heritage and ensuring that it remains accessible to the public and future generations, as a vital goal for all memory institutions and the public at large, the UNESCO Archives have launched the project “Digitalization of our shared UNESCO history”,
On this day, the Shkodër Directorate of Regional Heritage published a photo which is most likely the earliest shot inside the Shkodra Castle. The photo shows a group of apartments that are no longer preserved, in the first courtyard at the western part of the castle, by the Viennese photographer Josef Székely, taken in August 1863.
Székely was part of the study expedition to northern Albania, Kosova and Macedonia. This trip led by the Albanianologist Johan G. Hann.
