Revival of French Lycée of Korça, a project for a college after the visit of President Macron to Tirana

Also known as Little Paris in Albania, Korça received an attention as such, a few days ago when the French president, Emmanuel Macron, during his visit to Tirana, was presented with a photo album of the famous Korça ‘Lycée Français’, about 105 years old, which was closed during the WWII Albania.

“It is about taking the tradition and heritage of the Korça High School, to recognize it as a presence of French language education in Albania, and to bring it in a different, contemporary and European way. The proposal of the chairman of the Institute for International Studies, Dr. Albert Rakipi, was to open the French College in Korça, an institution of higher education that provides Bachelor and Master degrees studies and above all to have an international campus,” says Alba Çeço, the director of the Institute for Political Studies.

While nothing has been publicly announced other than the quoted promise of the French president that he will restore such a link, the originators of the idea provide for Public Radio and Television more details.

“It would be a very strategic investment in Albania and it would go naturally even with the latest developments. We now have opened the College of Europe in Albania, a project in which the Institute has invested a lot during the proposal phase. Considering this beautiful past, it was a high school which is still remembered today over 100 years after its existence,” adds Çeço.

While the practice is expected to take its course, the analogy of the opening of the College of Europe in record time, makes this revitalization visible in the near horizon.
