Emergency intervention at old Mati Bridge, one of the most beautiful bridges in the Balkans

Described as one of the most beautiful bridges in the Balkans, Mati Bridge or known as Ura e Zogut will finally undergo an emergency intervention.

Through an open bid of just a few days, the Ministry of Culture has asked the interested parties to make this emergency intervention through an available fund of 46 million ALL.

Mati Bridge is located in Fushë Milot, to the left of the Road of Nation; connecting both ends of river Mat. This suspension type bridge was built in 1927. It is about 490 m long and about 6.2 m wide, including the pavements. The bridge is currently used only for pedestrians and is out of use for motor vehicles.

Designed by the Swiss engineer, Erwin Schnitter, the bridge is built with six arches, 54 meters long each.

Bearing the Cultural Monument status, the historic bridge was damaged over the years, raising the alarm for the approval of a project to keep it standing. This technical draft was approved in February of this year by the National Council of Cultural Heritage.

At that time, the Ministry of Culture stated that this project was the result of the work of experts and professors of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Polytechnic University and the National Institute of Cultural Heritage.
