“Tale from the past” one of the most beautiful Albanian movies will be shown next month in France.

A Tale from the Past (Albanian: Përrallë nga e kaluara) is a 1987 Albanian historic comedy film directed by Dhimitër Anagnosti. Based on the book “A Bridegroom at Fourteen” by Andon Zako Çajupi.

The movie has been selected to be part of the Treasures & Curiosities section of the classic film festival, “Festival Lumiere”, in Lyon, France.

The Central State Film Archive (CSFA) emphasizes that another treasure of the Albanian film heritage touches European audiences thanks to its restoration.

The Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti, reiterated that after the movie “Tana”, which was shown at the same festival in 2022, “Tale from the Past” will now carry the Lumiere Classics logo, which promotes the best restorations of the latest times and enables the rediscovery by an ever wider audience.

The Lumiere Film Festival has been held every October in the Metropolis of Lyon, France, since 2009.

“Tale from the past” is a screen adaptation of the comedy “14 years old groom” by Andon Zako Çajupi. Dhimitër Anagnosti tells the story of a 20-year-old young woman, Marigo forcebly married off to a 14-year-old boy Gjino, from a more affluent family. With the help of her lover, Trimi(Brave man), Marigo takes revenge on all those who made up this unusual marriage and in the end “she got what she wanted”.

A wonderful cast of actors, guaranteed the success of the film. The main roles were performed by Elvira Diamanti, Robert Ndrenika, Xhevdet Feri, Admir Sorra, Hajrie Rondo and Xhemil Tagani.

This film is the winner of the “Aleksandër Moisiu” award in 1988 for the screenplay, in 1990 it received the second prize at the 8th Albanian Artistic Film Festival as well as the second prize at the International Film Festival of Eastern Europe in Bondy, France 1990.
