Emperor Justinian’s dedication to Dardania revealed, an important historical evidence

A history-shaping discovery, a powerful dedication from Emperor Justinian was been discovered in ‘Ulpiana Archaeological Site’ in Kosova.
The team of archaeologists, composed of Christophe Goddard, Arben Hajdari and Milot Berisha, during scientific research discovered a monumental inscription, with extraordinary historical importance, a dedication of the Emperor Justinian (527-565) to the city Justiniana Secunda, described as a Dardan city, a city in the Province of Dardania, founded by his predecessor Diocletian at the beginning of the 4th century AD and its church.
The inscription presents a very rare piece of evidence and proves the closeness of the emperor to his province of origin. The church represents one of the greatest discoveries for the Eastern Roman Empire and one of the most important emperors.
The Professor of Anthropology at the University of Prishtina, Tahir Latifi has called the discovery of the inscription of the emperor Justinian in the Archaeological Park of Ulpiana as extraordinary.
“The mentioning of Justinian the Great and his wife Theodora as founders of the city and dedicators of the gigantic churches in the city of Dardania, Justiniana Secunda, presents important historical evidence, bringing new evidence to historiography,” the professor wrote in a post. “While Justinian the Great (527-565), through this inscription, proves to us that he kept ties with his country of origin, Dardania,” Latifi adds.
The discovery is being echoed by important visitors who have flocked to site these days.
