CALENDAR-July 13th

On July 13, 1878, the Congress of Berlin ended after one month, with the signing of the Treaty of Berlin, which replaced the Treaty of Saint-Stefan. The decisions of the Congress of Berlin seriously harmed the interests of the Albanian people and the territorial integrity of Albania. The Treaty of Berlin did not recognize any national rights for Albania, and did not even mention its name at all. It did not even respect its territorial integrity.

In the summer of 1944, the Germans thought of raising the function of their Consul General to the level of ambassador, and Rrok Gera was appointed as ambassador of Albania in Berlin, on July 13, 1944. But he never actually took this position, as only a few days later, on July 18 of that year, he was appointed to the position of Minister of Finance in the Fiqiri Dines government.

On July 13, 2013, the well-known Albanian-American writer Sotir Lashova died in Florida, America. He was born in 1931 in the village of Lashovë in the district of Kolonja in a family with early patriotic roots. Although young, he contributed to the war for the liberation of the Motherland from the Nazis. After the liberation of the country from foreigners, Sotiri served with patriotic devotion in the ranks of the Army. For several years, he worked as a correspondent for the newspaper “Luftëtari”, the press organ of the former Ministry of Defense.
Since 1960 he has been a member of the League of Writers and Artists of Albania. He has many volumes in prose and poetry, but he is more famous as a fabulist. Among the many volumes with humor and satire, stand out “The crow of burial – exhumations”, “The donkey, supposed to be a king”, “The fox on hunger strike”, “The shadow, not measured in the morning”, “Staff of beasts”, etc.. His latest book “Pellazgët” has been of great interest.

On July 13, 1995, Albania became a member of the Council of Europe.
