Modern clothing based on the ethnography of Gjirokastër

Folklore and the National Folklore Festival of Gjirokastër itself cannot be understood without craftsmanship, without conveying the skill of making costumes.
During the days of the National Folklore Festival of Gjirokastër 2023, Cultural Heritage Without Borders (chwbalbania) organized the activity “Puntoria – Re-creation of Tradition 2”, on the realization of modern clothing, based on the ethnography and monuments of the Gjirokastër region.
Under the direction of the artisan of the atelier, Elida Zhulati and the curator Esmeralda Marku, with the assistance of 3 dressmakers from the city, 20 young women from Kosovo and Albania made 20 outfits, which were presented in a fashion show, among thousands of visitors to Gjirokastër.
The workshop was realized with the financial support of the Swedish Embassy in Tirana. The Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti, was also present at the workshop, where she saw the girls’ handmade creations.
