Balkan folklore festival, 400 participants gather in Durrës

Under the motto “we sing and dance around the world”, over 400 participants of folklore groups from different countries of the Balkans and Europe gave Durrës a spectacle of colors and sounds, unfolding their tradition through folk songs and dances.
“Liberty” Square, in the center of the coastal city, was transformed into a joyful scene where ensembles from different regions of the participating countries kept the public engaged with dances, songs and a variety of folk costumes.
“This time we have 18 folklore groups from countries of the Balkans and Europe, such as Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, etc. Each group has the opportunity to present its own culture and traditions. Not only that, they have the opportunity to be together and go to the beach, visit ancient monuments, the Amphitheater and some have chosen to visit other cities, such as Tirana and Kruja,” organizer Zoran Leveski said.
The multi-cultural folklore festival was opened two days ago by a group of children from Bulgaria, followed by Ukraine who brought joyful festive rhythms and traditional dances.
“We are from Ukraine and we came here to dance at this festival. We love it here and are especially enjoying the sea. We will stay another 5 days.”
“We are from Bosnia and Herzegovina and we have come to dance our traditional dances. It’s the first time and it’s a pleasure to be here. Very beautiful place”, the girls from Ukraine and Bosnia said.
In addition to artists who keep alive the tradition and popular culture of their countries, they are also tourists who enjoy everything that Durrës and Albania can offer during the tourist season.
Activities of this type enliven the artistic and cultural life, giving the many residents and tourists of Durrës the opportunity to enjoy the culture and traditions of different countries, the similarities and differences between them.
