Korça opened the tourist season on Saturday,  with the 16th edition of the International Carnival Festival.

Over 30 groups from Albania and the Balkan countries have given a magnificent celebration with a parade of Venetian costumes and masks in the alleys and squares of the city of serenades.

The activity started in the early hours of Saturday and continued in the evening, turning Korça into a festive capital with the parade of about 400 colorful costumes performed by citizens passionate about carnivals.

Different age groups, from children to adults, are part of the parade, dressed as different characters. This 16th edition was attended by many citizens and tourists who had chosen to spend the weekend in Korça.

The Mayor of Korça, Sotiraq Filo, said that the goal is to be part of the packages, to attract as many foreign tourists as possible.

He said:”This year we have over 30 groups participating in the Carnival Festival, while three groups are from Greece, Serbia and North Macedonia. I believe it is the best time to open a tourist season in the city through the joy, vibrancy and colors that the Carnival Festival brings. Even this summer season, I believe that Korça will welcome many local and foreign visitors”.

The organizer of the festival, Zamira Kita, said that the carnival atmosphere is the most beautiful postcard of the city.
