Exhibition of the Romanian photographer Andrei Birsan opened at the “House of Leaves” Museum

The photo exhibition titled “1989-Before and After”The city revisited” was opened at the National Museum of Audio-Intelligence “House of Leaves”.
The exhibition comes from the Bucharest City Hall Museum and is authored by photographer Andrei Birsan. The images captured by him are a proof of the changes that the city where he lives has undergone, since the communist regime until today. The artist’s challenge is to capture the details of the change through the experience of a survivor or a witness who preserved these changes in his photographic memory. The author connects moments of his life with the collective memory. The photos confront the nostalgia for the former regime which offered peace in exchange for submission, the younger ones who see that period as a sentimental ruin.
Andrei Birsan says through his exhibition that there is a third group: those who never knew the past and were born after a historical threshold. They live only with the new realities leaving open the dangerous path of going back.
The exhibition also offers images of the radical change of urban everyday life in the last 30 years, with the same places but with a different note of collective behavior.
