Albanian Alps, over 1,600 plant species in the rich habitats of forests and meadows

One of the main properties of the National Park of Albanian Alps is the variety of plants, reaching about 1500 – 1650 species.

The highest number of endemic and sub-endemic plants are species such as: Wulfenia Baldacci, Viola dukagjinica, Lilium albanicum, Alchemilla Albanica Rothm., Ligusticum albanicum Jav., Gentianella albanica, as well as as hendufites, willow, etc.

The park has a rich fauna too, consisting of 20 species of mammals, 50 species of migratory birds, 10 species of reptiles and 8 species of amphibians, which live peacefully in the rich habitats of tall forests and mountain or alpine ecosystems.

The Albanian Alps lie north of the Drin River and west of the lower reaches of the River Valbona River (tributary of the Drin). They include the northern part of the country and occupy about 8% of Albania’s territory, maintaining a very isolated geographical position, due to the roads that connect them with other regions of the country, while roads from Albanian territories outside the state border are few and not in a very good condition.

In the Alps, mountain tops and ranges, highlands, ridges and valleys provide for their extraordinary natural attraction.
