“Dancing with the shadows” is the newest Albanian film which brings back the atmosphere of communism in Albania, a theme with which almost all Albanian post-communist directors seem to be inseparable.
  
Bashkim Hoxha’s script, directed by Pluton Vasi, told the story of a journalist, Flora, for the unusual audience gathered at the “Millenium” cinema for the premiere. She returns from abroad to Albania to make a documentary about Mother Teresa. Unfortunately, she does not find her mother alive at home in anti-communist Shkodra. But she finds the man who watched over her mother, Miriam, played by the well-known actress of the movie “Gangs of London”, the Albanian actress living in Britain, Eri Shuka.

The beautiful ex-ballerina and her liberal friends would get together to express their grievances against the system, to recite bold Baudelaire lines, to dance, drink or even make love. They were part of the foreign-educated youth before the Second World War, at that time part of the so-called classes subverted by popular power. After the interceptions, Miriam’s poet lover is killed.

The one who watched over her, Ziguri, played by the actor Karafil Shena, fell in love with her and from the love-rape, Flora, the journalist, played by Rovena Lule Kuke, was born, who could not accept that she was the daughter of a spy. Her father, the deceased misunderstood and a victim of time, abandoned by everyone, with no more meaning to live, ends his life.

The film “Dancing with the shadows” is a co-production of KKK, MV Film Agency, Doli Media Studio Bulgaria, with the support of the Municipality of Tirana and RTSH.

Its producers are Vjollca Dedei and Pluton Vasi and a cast of professional names. The director of photography is Spartak Papadhimitri, the music was composed by Hajg Zaharjan, the painter of the film is the well-known Adnan Kastrati, the costume design comes from Taulant Pustina, the cinematographer is Adi Grishaj, while the editing is done by master Gjergji Pano.
