Academy of Sciences of Albania Celebrates Its 52nd Anniversary

On October 10, 1972, the Academy of Sciences of Albania, the highest research and scientific institution in the country, was founded, resulting from the tireless efforts of Professor Aleks Buda, who was also appointed as its first president. The inaugural meeting of the Academy’s Assembly took place on January 25, 1973. Among other prominent founders alongside Buda were Eqrem Çabej, Mahir Domi, Petrit Radovicka, and Kolë Popa.
In its early days, the Academy had 17 regular members and 5 corresponding members. It operated with a range of institutes focusing on social sciences, Albanology, natural sciences, and technical disciplines.
Among the Academy’s main functions are conducting theoretical and practical studies and research in various fields of social sciences, Albanology, natural sciences, and technical disciplines, facilitating the implementation of these studies in practice, collaborating with universities and other research institutions, and organizing national and international activities related to science.
The founding decree of the Academy of Sciences is preserved in the Academy’s archives at the National Archives of Albania. Additionally, a list of the members of the Academy’s sections is also available.
