“AlBa” Baroque Music Festival started last evening at Opera and Ballet Theater in Tirana

The National Theater of Opera and Ballet started the first edition of the “AlBa” Baroque Music Festival, now part of the theater’s artistic season.
The Opera and Ballet Theater director, Abigeila Voshtina shared on social networks the program of the first evening, which includes arias and duets from the “opere buffe Napolitane“.
“Music with a variety of colors and a repertoire unknown to our public, who will definitely appreciate it,” Voshtina informs on social networks. This activity takes place in collaboration with the Conservatory of Music “Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa” of Potenza, Italy.
“Opera buffa” is an opera genre that was originally used as a description of Italian comic operas, classified in different ways by authors themselves as musical comedies, comic dramas, etc.
“Opera buffa” was mainly associated with developments in Naples in the first half of the 18th century, from where their popularity spread to Rome and northern Italy. These operas were initially characterized by everyday settings, local dialects and simple singing (basso buffo), the main requirement being the clear diction and the ease in singing fast verses.
The AlBa Baroque Music Festival will be a festival entirely dedicated to baroque music. After last year’s Jazz Festival, Opera and Ballet Theater returns to the fruitful cooperation with the Conservatory of Potenza.
During 4 months, there will be 10 different concerts by 10 groups, performing famous and lesser known music, for an audience of all ages.
