Filming has begun for “Leaving Copacabana”, the latest project by acclaimed Balkan director Milcho Manchevski, winner of over 50 international awards.

Albania is participating as a co-producer through the Tirana Film Institute, in its second collaboration with North Macedonia’s Banana Film and Manchevski himself.

The drama follows a brother and sister with deeply layered personalities navigating life in a society divided between the wealthy and the unprotected.

Main cast members include Sara Klimoska, Filip Trajkovic, Petar Mircevski, Sonja Mihajlova, and Dejan Lilic.

The film is an international co-production involving North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Albania, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

Manchevski, the first Macedonian director nominated for an Oscar and winner of Venice’s Golden Lion, is no stranger to Albania. His films have screened at the Tirana International Film Festival, including his recent premiere “Kaymak” in 2022.
