Albania’s Ambassador to the EU, Ferit Hoxha, said the country plans to close several EU negotiation chapters within the first six months of 2026.

Hoxha spoke in an interview with Tv Klan, emphasizing that Albania follows an agreed work plan with the European Commission.

“In 2026, we expect to close not just one, but a significant number of chapters. We are following a plan agreed with the European Commission,” Hoxha said.

He added that progress depends on the joint efforts of Albanian authorities, the European Commission, and EU member states.

Hoxha also explained that Albania is now in the next stage of the EU process, using the new enlargement methodology based on 24 intermediate benchmarks from the Second Intergovernmental Conference. These must be met before chapters can officially close.

He announced that in February, a special delegation from the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee will visit Albania. They will meet political actors, government officials, and institutions to assess progress and next steps.
