Albania Unveils First Art Cooperative in Vaqarr, Boosting Creative Industries and Global Artistic Exchange

Albania marks a significant milestone with the inauguration of the Art Cooperative, the country’s first-ever art residency, located in the village of Vaqarr, just 7 kilometers from Tirana, in a newly restored building. Supported by the Municipality of Tirana through the Creative Industries Agency and the Emanuel Foundation, this cooperative offers a unique platform for artists worldwide, inviting them to live and collaborate in an inspiring, creative environment.
Jonid Jorgji, Director of the Creative Industries Agency, highlighted the economic potential of creative industries during his speech at the opening. “With the establishment of the Art Cooperative, we are consistently contributing to the development of creative industries. We firmly believe in its vast economic potential and see it as the birthplace of future professions—professions that cannot be replaced by Artificial Intelligence but are products of human creativity,” Jorgji emphasized.
The Art Cooperative will not only serve as a space to foster new talent but will also open its doors to the public every weekend. Visitors can engage in various artistic activities, including exhibitions, performances, workshops, and discussions, as well as purchase artworks created by the resident artists.
This initiative by the Municipality of Tirana through the Creative Industries Agency represents a significant step towards encouraging collaboration between artists and the public, as well as promoting Albanian art on the global stage.
