Albanian Heritage in Venice Explored: Lucia Nadin and Albanians in Venice Premieres in Tirana

The historical documentary “Lucia Nadin and the Albanians in Venice” by Ilir Yzeiri premiered last night at the Millennium Cinema, attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Based on the research of the Albanologist Lucia Nadin, the documentary highlights the European heritage of Albanians, emphasizing their role and resilience in resisting Ottoman conquest in defense of their lands and European Christianity.
Lucia Nadin’s discoveries also include the only surviving original copy of the Statuti di Scutari (Statutes of Shkodra).
Lucia Nadin’s contributions are regarded as highly significant for Albania. The documentary, dedicated to her work, opens with a rare depiction of the First Siege of Shkodra at the Ducal Palace, thus illustrating the unparalleled attention and importance that Albania held for Venice.
The documentary draws on Lucia Nadin’s works, including Albanians in Venice – Emigration and Integration, Rediscovered Albania, The Statutes of Shkodra, The Figure of Skanderbeg in Venetian Cultural and Artistic Life, and numerous other studies. Nadin’s research underscores that medieval Albania was, in fact, a European Albania, a country she has positioned on the map of nations that contributed significantly to European political history.
The documentary was produced with the support of the Council of Ministers.
