“Alphabet Day” being officially recognized on November 22nd

The Commission for Foreign Policy held its meeting today to discuss the inclusion of November 22, the Day of the Alphabet, as an official holiday.
The committee examined the draft law “On an addition to Law No. 7651, dated 21.12.1992, ‘On official holidays and commemorative days,’ as amended.”
Invited to present this draft law was the Deputy Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Artemis Malo, who stated that this legal initiative pertains to the inclusion of November 22, the Day of the Alphabet, in the list of official holidays of the Republic of Albania.
“This date holds significance not only for Albania, Kosovo, and North Macedonia but also for the Albanian Diaspora. It marks the day when the Albanian Diaspora convened at its third summit last November, during which the commitment of the Albanian government to include this day in the list of official holidays of the Republic of Albania was initiated. It stands as one of the pivotal dates in our history. The draft law aims to amend Law No. 7651, dated 21.12.1992, ‘On official holidays and commemorative days,’ by adding November 22 as an official holiday. This draft law does not foresee any financial impact on the state budget,” stated Malo.
The rapporteur of the case, Etilda Gjonaj, emphasized the significant importance of this change.
“We will now have another day that will be celebrated across all Albanian territories, as North Macedonia has done. Now, we also have the Day of the Alphabet,” underlined Gjonaj, inviting her colleagues to vote in favor of this draft law.
After questions and discussions, the committee approved the draft law, article by article, along with the draft law under consideration as a whole, in principle.
