Anastas Kostandini, mosaic with Illyrian motifs for the city of Pogradec

The Mayor of Pogradec, Ilir Xhakolli, visited the studio of the Pogradec painter Anastas Kostandini (Taso), who for several weeks has started working on the creation of the mural mosaic with the motifs of the Illyrian flag discovered in Lower Selca.

This mural will be exhibited in one of the main parts of the city of Pogradec. Pafta, which dates back to c. III BC, is decorated with a battle scene where Illyrian warriors defeat the enemy, interspersed with mythological elements such as dragon, griffon, fish and birds.

The whole scene depicted in this artifact is an interpretation of the legend of Cadmus, who, after helping the Angels to triumph over their enemies, turned into a dragon.

Anastas Kostandini, nicknamed Taso, is a well-known painter, mosaicist, draftsman, graphic artist, illustrator. Taso was born on July 29, 1954 in Pogradec. In 1978 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana, specializing in monumental art. He is one of the co-authors of the “Albania” mosaic, on the facade of the National Historical Museum.
