Angelin Preljocaj brings contemporary ballet magic back to Tirana

World-famous artist Angelin Preljocaj returns to Tirana for the Contemporary Ballet Festival, taking place from October 9 to 25.

Minister of Culture Mirela Kumbaro shared the artist’s message on social media, calling the festival “a poetic dialogue between movement, light, and audience — where every step tells a story.”

She reminded that, as Ismail Kadare once said, Preljocaj is truly “the cousin of angels.”

In a video message, the Albanian-French choreographer invited everyone to join “a real celebration of modern dance,” with performances in 10 surprise public spaces across the capital.

This year’s edition will feature some of Europe’s most exciting shows at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet, the National Theatre, Metropol, Puppet Theatre, and other venues. The festival opens with a new free performance for the public.

Born in France to Albanian parents, Angelin Preljocaj began his career in classical ballet before turning to contemporary dance. His work blends classical technique with modern expression — a signature style that has conquered the world’s greatest stages.
