Assembly Speaker Niko Peleshi said Albania has entered a decisive phase of its European Union integration process. Speaking at the EU-Albania Parliamentary Stabilisation and Association Committee meeting in Tirana, he said adopting laws alone was no longer enough. Albania must now implement them.

Peleshi said EU enlargement currently faces a positive moment. However, he also highlighted geopolitical challenges, security and peace in the region, Europe and beyond. He said the European Union remains an essential factor and guarantee for development, stability and security. Peleshi added that Albania’s European orientation remains unchanged.

Meanwhile, Peleshi highlighted 2026 as an important year for Albania. He referred to the eighth intergovernmental conference in Brussels on the fundamentals cluster. He also noted the closing of the first three negotiating chapters.

According to Peleshi, these developments represent decisive moments for Albania’s goal of joining the European Union by 2030. He described EU membership as Albania’s strategic national goal and the Assembly’s top priority. Peleshi said the negotiations have now entered a decisive phase, with the focus shifting from adopting legislation to implementing reforms and meeting integration commitments.
