“Ball with masks”, the society that hides behind the portraits/ Painter Ilir Bala opens exhibition with portraits and compositions

The exhibition “Ball with masks” by the painter Ilir Bala was opened at the “FAB” gallery at the University of Arts, curated by Najada Hamza and Ardian Kapo. 42 works created in the last 10 years convey an observation of society that often hides itself.
“It struck to my mind that the portraits of our society, especially recently, are half a mask. We can see how the mask melts, figuratively, into the portrait of a man. We all, even you who do not paint, keep a child inside us “Childhood is the only period of a person’s life that does not have a mask,” said Bala.
Strong colors, portraits that often seem naïve but convey a riveting gaze, compositions that carry the past and the present, can also be read as a traumatic legacy that came unconsciously.
“Critic Dashamir Vaqarri thinks that in the times of communism, people were never true and not themselves because they were afraid, and this is a legacy that has been left to the generations that are contemporary today,” says the painter Bala.
The shadows of the regime, the young socialist man, or the symbolic star itself, beyond schematism, rock the past that wanders around. The exhibition will be open until January 18.
