On January 20, 2010, Pashko Gjeçi, a well-known poet, teacher and translator, passed away. He was born in Tirana on September 7, 1918. He studied in the same classroom with Arshi Pipa, Lazër Radi, Xhemal Broja, Kolë Ashta and in the same bench with Qemal Stafa. Thanks to the results achieved in high school, the Ministry of Education awarded him a half scholarship. In the academic year 1938, he enrolled in the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy in Rome. On July 15, 1942, he graduated with the degree of Doctor of Science in that faculty with excellent results. After returning to Albania, on September 4, 1947, he was arrested on the charge of “Participation in a group against the government” and sentenced to five years in prison. He was released in 1952 and settled once again in Shkodër with his family. In the years 1954-1958, he worked as a teacher at the eight-year school in Fushë-Kruja, during which time he served for the translation of Dante’s “The Divine Comedy”. From 1968 to 1972 he taught Latin at the Faculty of Medicine. He passed away at the age of 91.

January 20, 1921 is the Military Engineering Day of the Albanian Army.

On January 20, 1954, the United School of the Ministry of the Interior (Police Academy) was established.
