January 27 is the Day of the Albanian Forestry Service. This date was set according to the approval in 1923 of the first Albanian Law “On Forests and Pastures”.

On January 27, 1999, in the war against the Serbian military and police forces, the martyrs Kasim Shala, Driton Azemi, Hamdi Berisha Bedri Bajrami and Mehdi Haziri fell on the war fronts of the Kosova Liberation Army.

On January 27, 1928, Xhanfise Keko was born in Gjirokastër. She started her career as an editor, and was one of the seven founding members of the Film Studios “New Albania “, in 1952. After a long experience as an editor, she started her career as a movie director, in 1971. For 13 years, Keko made 12 feature movies, which are still very popular today, especially for children. In addition to the many awards, in 1984 she was awarded the high title “People’s Artist”. She also won the First Festival Cup for the movie “Beni ecën vetë” /Beni walks on his own/ in 1976. She passed away on December 22, 2007.
