January 31st, 1913, marks the beginning of the joint attack of the forces of the Shkodra Garrison and the Albanian highlanders against the Montenegrin and Serbian troops.

January 31, 1918 is the birth date of poet, comedian, Spiro Çomorra. He graduated in jurisprudence in Greece. He worked for a long time in the magazine “Hosteni”. The social problems of the time take place in his writings. As a part of the creativity of Çomorra, there are also Albanian translations, especially from ancient Greek literature. Spiro Çomorra died at the age of 55 in Tirana in 1973.

Ramazan Zyberi, the music master of central Albania, the bell of folk songs, was born in Tirana on January 31, 1920, in a family with traditions, especially in the field of singing. He started his career in the Army Ensemble, being one of its founders, to continue in the Folk Song Ensemble, in the Variety Show. For the interpretation of the popular music of Central Albania, Zyberi has been awarded with prizes and honorary titles. He passed away in Tirana at the age of 87 on January 8, 2008.

January 31, 1924– The biweekly social and pedagogical magazine “Reforma”, organ of the Teachers’ Association in Tirana, was published. It supported the development of national education and the implementation of bourgeois democratic freedoms. The magazine “Reforma” continued with 30 issues and in July 1924 published the newspaper Reforma as a supplement.

Ahmet Zogu, heir to a feudal family from Mati, was elected President of the Republic until 1929 on January 31, 1925.

On January 31, 2003, the official opening of negotiations for the Stabilization-Association Agreement took place in Tirana, with a special ceremony. The then president of the European Commission, Romano Prodi, was also present.

Academician Kristo Frashëri, the Honor of the Nation, passed away at the age of 96 in Tirana on January 31, 2016. He was born on December 17, 1920 in Istanbul. Prof. Kristo Frashëri has a scientific production for a period of 70 years, with dozens of research articles, historical reports, documentary volumes and scientific monographs, dealing with events, personalities and processes of the history of Albania.
