Shkodra, renowned as the hub of carnival celebrations in Albania, will transform into a festive environment from February 23-25.

The mayor of Shkodra, Benet Beci, along with the working group, is finalizing the details of this celebration, expected to enliven the city with masks and various outfits.

“The carnivals of Shkodra will be a celebration for everyone. We are taking to the final details to infuse this traditional celebration with its vibrant colors and brightness. There will be no shortage of surprises to accompany the city during the three festive days from February 23 to 25,” stated Beci.

Shkodra is the city that pioneered Carnival celebrations. The first festivities date back to the second half of the 19th century, precisely in 1860, establishing a strong tradition that persisted until 1946, when celebrations were banned under the communist regime. However, the tradition resurfaced after the 1990s.

Shkodra is also a city known for the production of famous Venetian masks, which add vibrancy to such celebrations.
