Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of Liberation: Students Engage with Iconic Albanian Art

Talented students from schools across Albania are bringing iconic works of Albanian art to life as part of the Year of the Albanian Language and the 80th Anniversary of Liberation.
The Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, shared on social media the example of Viola Beqiraj, a student from “Petro Nini Luarasi” high school, who recreated the artwork The Reader by painter Sadik Kaceli, originally created in 1947 and part of the National Gallery of Arts’ Collection. The photograph was captured by Emi Nebiu.
“This piece, during the month dedicated to books, reflects the importance of reading and knowledge in the building of a nation,” said Manastirliu.
In the Year of the Albanian Language and in honor of Albania’s 80th Liberation Anniversary, students are reviving iconic works of Albanian art, representing key cultural figures and historic moments. These artworks help highlight the events and personalities that have shaped Albania’s history and national identity.
To celebrate the Year of the Albanian Language, the Ministry of Education and Sports has planned a series of national and pan-Albanian activities, involving schools across the country as well as the diaspora. The celebrations will culminate on November 22, National Alphabet Day.
