Children’s interest, a good omen for the preservation of cultural heritage

Albanian Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti conveyed this morning pictures from the children’s visit to the Onufri Iconographic Museum, in Berat.

“The emotion and curiosity that children feel in front of our cultural heritage is a good omen that a generation is growing up that will further our mission in the preservation and promotion of this heritage”, said Margariti in her post on social networks.

The Iconographic Museum “Onufri” in Berat during the month of January recorded a high number of visitors. In January, the museum was visited by 1140 mostly foreign visitors, 254% more compared to January 2022 and 148% compared to January 2019.

Consequently, the income from the sale of tickets has also increased.

The “Onufri” Iconographic Museum, which bears the name of one of the masters of Albanian painting of the 16th century, was built on the ruins of a church rebuilt in 1797 in the “Castle ” neighborhood, which was the city’s cathedral, and the most representative of post-Byzantine architecture in the city of Berat.

The museum collection consists of 200 objects selected from a fund of more than 1,500 objects that belong to the funds of the churches and monasteries of Berat and Myzeqe.
