DEA OPEN AIR Brings Three Nights of Albanian Cinema to Saranda

The “DEA OPEN AIR” film festival continues to promote Albanian cinema, create new spaces for film screenings and strengthen connections between filmmakers, their works and audiences.

As part of this initiative, the FOCUS CineKO program begins today in Saranda. The program will run for three consecutive nights and will present three representative productions of Albanian cinema made beyond Albania’s borders.

FOCUS CineKO aims to highlight films, filmmakers and artistic experiences that, despite being created in different countries, share a common linguistic and cultural space.

According to “DEA OPEN AIR,” Albanian cinema in Kosovo, North Macedonia and other countries across the region has gained increasing visibility in recent years. Albanian filmmakers have presented their work at international festivals, attracted the attention of critics and shown that cooperation among Albanian filmmakers can produce works with a distinctive artistic identity and broad audience appeal.

Meanwhile, the FOCUS CineKO program seeks to encourage the circulation of Albanian productions across the region. It also aims to support the idea of a more open cultural and cinematographic market.

“DEA OPEN AIR” has invited residents and visitors to Saranda to attend the three evenings along the city’s promenade. The program will offer audiences an opportunity to discover new films, revisit acclaimed works and explore Albanian cinema beyond Albania’s borders. Admission will be free.

The opening night will feature “Karma,” directed by Esat Fejza. On Saturday, September 19, the program will continue with “Krejt e thirrin Rexhon,” directed by Ibër Deari.

Sunday’s program will focus on “Cirku fluturues,” directed by Fatos Berisha. The film will also return to Saranda at the closing of the program.
