Decision on Visas: VanHorn Says Economic Security is National Security

Nancy VanHorn, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Tirana, spoke at an event promoting American communication technology. She cited former President Donald Trump: “Economic security is national security.”
The U.S. Embassy in Tirana shared VanHorn’s statement on social media: “As President Trump said, ‘Economic security is national security.’ This principle is especially important for public safety and critical infrastructure. The technology countries choose directly affects the stability, sovereignty, and security of their citizens,” VanHorn said.
Her statement comes after the U.S. decided to suspend visa issuance for 75 countries, including Albania and Kosovo.
The embassy clarified which Albanian citizens can still travel to the U.S. and which are restricted.
Albanian citizens with a valid U.S. visa may travel for tourism, holidays, shopping, business meetings, or visiting friends and relatives. Travel for childbirth, studying for a degree, or employment is not allowed.
The U.S. Department of State suspended immigrant visas for 75 countries, including Albania and Kosovo.
“It is your responsibility to use your visa correctly,” the embassy said on social media.
