Demo Takes Office as Interior Minister, Koçiu: Moving Forward with Reforms to Strengthen Security

Ervin Demo has taken office as Minister of Interior after being sworn in at the Presidency. In the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu, outgoing Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari formally handed over his duties to Demo.

Koçiu shared images on social media from Demo’s first moments as Interior Minister. She said the ministry was entering a new chapter while maintaining the same vision and commitment to a safer, more modern and more European Albania.

“We are confident that Ervin Demo’s experience will add value to advancing the work and reforms already underway. These efforts aim to strengthen security, ensure public order and provide better services that respond to citizens’ needs and expectations,” Koçiu wrote.

Meanwhile, Demo said he was taking on the new responsibility with commitment and determination. He also reaffirmed his goal of contributing to a safer, more modern and more European Albania.

Outgoing Minister Besfort Lamallari wished Demo success in what he described as an important and highly responsible position. He said the new minister faces challenges but also has an opportunity to continue the transformation of the sector, strengthen security and build an increasingly professional and European police force.

Lamallari also thanked the staff of the Ministry of Interior for their work and cooperation during his nine years at the institution.

“The baton changes hands, but responsibility toward citizens and the work for a European Albania continue,” Lamallari wrote.
