Deputy PM Balluku: 45% of Albania’s Electricity to Come from Solar and Wind by 2030

TIRANA, January 26 – On the International Day of Clean Energy, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku highlighted Albania’s progress in renewable energy. She said the national strategy aims to cover around 45% of domestic electricity consumption with solar and wind by 2030. This approach will reduce dependence on traditional sources and hydropower.

Balluku noted that Albania’s progress has received international recognition. The World Economic Forum ranked the country in 2025 among nations with high energy sustainability due to fully renewable production capacity. Private investments exceeding €2 billion have strengthened the sector. Currently, Albania has more than 700 MW of operational private solar capacity and around 400 MW from self-producers. Projects under development could expand renewable capacity beyond 1,500 MW, while storage solutions over 1,600 MW are under study.

She added that Albania has moved from pilot solar projects to large-scale plants like the 140 MW Karavasta solar park. Wind energy projects, including the 600 MW CWP project, are also underway. By 2030, solar and wind are expected to produce around 3.4 million MWh, covering 45% of domestic electricity consumption and supporting a secure, sustainable energy system.
