Digitalization of the National Historical Museum Photo Archive Marks 44th Anniversary

Tirana, October 28 – The Central State Film Archive continues digitalizing the National Historical Museum’s photo collection on the museum’s 44th anniversary. The archive holds over 12,000 negatives documenting Albania’s history.
Museum Director Elenita Roshi highlighted that the collection began in 1981 alongside the museum’s founding, with photographs collected from institutions, families, and field expeditions. The material includes images of pavilions, exhibitions, and historical sites.
Central State Film Archive Director Eljan Tanini said the digitalization project will take more than six months. Over 760 photographs have already been processed, with 11,000 more awaiting transformation. Tanini stressed that archives preserve collective memory and historical evidence for future generations.
The project will make the archive publicly accessible while respecting copyright. Roshi noted that the collection will support the redesigned museum and remain a key cultural resource for Albania.
