Education and Sports Minister Visits Transformed Special School

Education and Sports Minister Ogerta Manastirliu visited “Luigj Gurakuqi” Special School, recently upgraded to a Resource Center, marking a significant milestone for the institution. This transformation is part of a broader initiative to enhance education for children with special needs and provide more integrated services nationwide.
Manastirliu emphasized the importance of the upgrade in improving educational services for children with special needs. “‘Luigj Gurakuqi’ Special School, along with the Institute for Sightless Children and the Institute for Children with Hearing Impairments, is transitioning to Resource Centers. We are adding 16 new staff members to support this change,” she said.
She also highlighted the government’s efforts to better integrate these children into the education system by increasing the number of support teachers and offering ongoing training. “We have over 4,000 children in our schools, supported by more than 2,000 teachers. Our goal is to increase these numbers and provide continuous training,” Manastirliu added.
Resource Centers will not only serve as specialized schools but also coordinate resource classes in various schools and support individualized education plans. “Resource Centers will oversee the establishment of resource classes across the country and monitor individualized education plans closely,” Manastirliu noted.
“Luigj Gurakuqi” School has seen substantial infrastructure improvements, including 16 new classrooms, specialized facilities, a gym, sports fields, and an expanded staff. These upgrades ensure high teaching standards and quality care for students. The facilities are set to accommodate 82 students this year and are prepared to support more children in the future.
