Elisa Spiropali Hails Lea Ypi’s “Indignity” as a Masterpiece of Albanian Spirit

Parliament Speaker Elisa Spiropali shared her high praise for Lea Ypi’s latest novel, Indignity. She calls it “a breath-taking saga of Albanian history and spirit.”

Spiropali says the book, dedicated to Ypi’s grandmother, is more than a novel—it’s an open table for all Albanians who love serious literature, homeland, knowledge, and progress.

The novel masterfully portrays Albanian life across decades. It captures social layers, historical tensions, sounds, scents, and emotions that shaped society.

“I read Lea Ypi’s latest book in one breath. The novel honors her wise grandmother and through her, our shared fate. It’s a grand table where Albanians who love reading, patriotism, and serious literature gather. They find nourishment for the human spirit, intellect, dignity, and progress,” Spiropali wrote.

She describes the book’s vivid scenes—mountains, valleys, political tensions, and daily life sounds—from clashing swords to quiet melodies of understanding.

Spiropali calls Lea Ypi a rare writer—an independent intellectual and bold creator. Ypi’s work traces a path “from hell to paradise,” showing the Albanian spirit’s power to survive, reflect, and illuminate.

The novel, written in English, will soon be published in Albanian, bringing this powerful work closer to local readers.

Spiropali concludes: “Lea Ypi is a free soul, a sovereign of thought and creativity. Thank you, dear Lea, for all you have done for Albania and Albanians. I am proud that this masterpiece’s author fights so Albania and the world remain places of spirit, not factions.”
