EU supports protected areas with biodiversity project along Vjosa river

TIRANA, March 15 – The European Union supports biodiversity protection along the Vjosa River through a project worth 6.5 million ALL.
The initiative aims to improve management of protected areas and strengthen environmental planning. Activities include planting tree seedlings and maintaining them for two years.
Local resident Fatmir Salihi welcomed the project. He said the work has improved air quality and reduced waste in the area.
Engineer Nexhip Hysolakoj explained that the project focuses on careful species selection and natural-style planting rather than linear planting methods.
Meanwhile, Ermela Toçi from the EU for Rivers project stressed the need for continuous monitoring and decisions based on scientific research.
Such initiatives highlight the role of local communities in protecting nature and support Albania’s efforts to meet EU environmental standards under membership negotiation Chapter 27.
