Photographer Jutta Benzenberg opened her exhibition Don’t Look Back at the House on Fire at hbs Gallery in Tirana. She also launched her photo book with support from the EU Delegation and the German Embassy.

Benzenberg documented Albania’s chaotic 1990s. A fire later destroyed much of her archive. She and Olsi Hoxha reworked the burned negatives and turned them into new artworks.

EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato spoke at the opening. He urged Albania to face its past with honesty. “Democracies need memory as much as laws and institutions,” he said.

The exhibition invites visitors to see Albania’s transition through images that blend personal and collective memory.
